Commencement 2008
The Lewis & Clark Graduate School of Education and Counseling’s 24th commencement ceremony will be held Sunday, June 1, 2008 at 10 a.m. in the Pamplin Sports Center. Highly regarded family therapist and author Chris Crutcher (pictured) will deliver the address. On May 31, he will also lead a workshop called “What Works with Kids.”
Helping Children Learn to Write
A new book, Raising Writers: Understanding and Nurturing Young Children’s Writing Development (Allyn & Bacon, 144 pp.), explores how primary educators can nurture young learners through the transition from spoken to written language. Author and children’s writing enthusiast Ruth Shagoury is the Mary Stuart Rogers Professor of Education.
Mentoring Program Offers a Lifeline to New Teachers
Each summer, school districts around the state send teams of experienced teachers and administrators to a two-day workshop at the Lewis & Clark Graduate School of Education and Counseling. Our New Teacher Conversations program is designed to support beginning teachers and to address the growing problem of teacher retention. Read more in the Chronicle.
Student Commencement Speaker Named
Charlie Ahlquist, M.A.T. ’08, has been chosen as student commencement speaker. An experienced musician, he says of teaching, “I find joy every hour by educating my students about different cultures, our histories, our diversity, and the exhilaration and anguish of the human condition, through the gift of song.”
New Journal of Educational Leadership
The Educational Leadership Program is proud to announce a new online journal, Pioneer Perspectives: Commentaries on Educational Leadership, which will feature original scholarship produced by Lewis & Clark doctoral students. The first issue is available online now.
